Fixation of the damages is a primary stage in the formation of the evidence base. The process consists in the systematic collection, description and documentation of facts of damage/destruction.

Andriy Malyar, Head of the Project “Increasing awareness among local governments and citizens about recording the destruction caused by war” stated this at a thematic lecture for students of the Institute of Postgraduate Education of KNU named after Taras Shevchenko.

“Documentation should be detailed. We are talking about photographs, video recordings, a collection of acts compiled by law enforcement agencies, written explanations of witnesses, etc. Such materials become an important component of the evidentiary base during the further consideration of the case in court,” emphasized the Project Manager.

Also, Andriy Malyar spoke about the mechanisms for obtaining compensation and the procedure for submitting applications to both national and international courts.

In addition, KNU students were familiarized with the “Algorithm of Actions for Fixing Destroyed or Damaged Property”, which was developed by experts of the Headquarters for Procedural Activities of the Coordination Center of the Ukrainian Association of District and Regional Councils, taking into account the legal documents that regulate the issue of fixing the damage caused.
